My One-and-Only Camera

By Mark Chisholm | Leave a Comment

iPhone shot of Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard
As an exercise to help get my creative muscles moving again, I started using my iPhone 6s as my one-and-only camera. I needed to do something to get out of my own way and this seemed like a good way to both simplify things while at the same time impose some creative constraints on myself.

The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one’s self. – Igor Stravinsky

It’s been almost three months since I began this little experiment and I’m enjoying it so much that I continue to put off replacing my broken DSLR. Not only do I find myself more often looking for opportunities to capture interesting images wherever I happen to be, I now make much more of an effort to go out of my way during my daily commute to find cool scenes and subjects to capture. Simplifying My Creative Tools

My New Creative Toolbox
I’m constantly looking for ways to simplify everything in my life. It’s a never-ending battle as life seems to always be throwing more complexity at me. Taking My Own Advice

By Mark Chisholm | Leave a Comment

RocksIt seems like so long ago that I wrote a post about getting the train back on the tracks. Little did I know at the time, soon after publishing that post I would find myself completely derailed creatively. For far too many months now I’ve avoided my own advice and allowed way too many of life’s challenges both at home and at work to zap my motivation to do much of anything creative. For the most part I haven’t been taking pictures, haven’t been drawing, or even writing.

In an effort to finally emerge from this creative funk, I took some time for myself today and went for a walk on the beach. I only took a few pictures with my phone. It was a simple step forward… just what I needed. I’m looking forward to taking another step tomorrow.
